…nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these courageous couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds” is apparently the motto of the US Postal Service, and while Laurie Anderson may have thought posties to be supermen, here in the UK we tend to view them less fondly. So this morning I received a Christmas Card, postmarked December 20th 2008. My friend lives four miles away. An arthritic snail could have got it here more rapidly. Mind you, there was recently a report of a card being delivered 89 years late.
