Finally the European Union gets something right

In the UK we delude ourselves by thinking that we live in a country run by democratically elected representatives sitting in a big mock-Gothic house in London. This is almost completely false. We are in fact, ruled by a bunch of corrupt faceless bureaucrats who can’t even decide where to hide (they endlessly shuffle between Strasbourg, Brussels and Luxembourg). The election of MEPs is only a facade raised to hide the truth. All the British parliament does is to nod through laws dreamed up by the cyborgs in Stras/Bruss/Luxe.

However, once in a while a gem creeps through. The most recent is the EU Unfair Commercial Practices Directive. This will replace the Fraudulent Mediums Act (1951) and will mean that instead of a prosecutor having to prove that a medium or spiritual healer had intended to be fraudulent, it will be the psychic’s responsibility to prove they did not mislead or coerce credulous consumers. It will also be interesting to see if the legislation covers what is preached in Churches and Mosques. I await the first case with baited breath.
