Dogma

That’s Dogma, not the Lars Von Trier Dogme manifesto, but the unexpectedly intelligent Jay and Silent Bob movie. A rather entertaining critique of religious belief in general, and catholicism in particular.

For those unfamiliar with the oeuvre, Jay and Silent Bob are a pair of slackers who get into sundry adventures. Here they are prophets who help the 13th (and black apostle) and the “last scion” to try and save earth by preventing two angels (Matt Damon and Ben Affleck) who have been cast out of heaven, (banished to Wisconsin, actually), from re-entering via a church in New Jersey. Worth it simply for Alan Rickman as the voice of God and Alanis Morissette as God herself.

Watch with an open mind and a sense of humo[u]r.

Oh, and it’s 3.002 on my list of four movies I watch over and over again

  1. 3.002, eh? Cheater!

I liked this film as well – and was also surprised that it was so good. Not a Ben Affleck fan per se, though view Matt Damon as shamefully underrated. I expected crap, and at the end was holding my breath!
