An Undiscovered Gem
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) Just stumbled across this gem, directed by Wes Anderson, an homage to the films of Jacques Yves Cousteau (complete with red wooly hats and an old ex-minesweeper boat called Belafonte [Harry Belafonte was the King of Calypso and Calypso was Cousteau’s boat]), with a petty damn fine cast including Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Anjelica Hoston, Jeff Goldblum, Michael Gambon, Willem Dafoe and Owen (OMG he can act!) Wilson. Got slaughtered by the critics which just goes to show how little critics know.
Ill have to rent that one. I never even heard of it.
Loved this movie! It sounded very hokey, but my husband rented it anyway, and I am glad he did. It was well-crafted and effortlessly balanced humor and humanity.
I found a t-shirt with a nod to this film – http://www.noisebot.com/team_zissou_t-shirt.htm
What no red bobble hats? 🙂
