Twenty Albums

Inspired by A Brit In LA’s listing of Ten favourite albums (albums, some of us are still living in the 70’s!) I thought I’d try and introduce some scientific rigour and compare what I think I like, with what my iPod tells me I listen to most often.

What I think I like (the ten albums I’d take on a one-way geology field trip to Mars):-

Dark Side Of The Moon – Pink Floyd
Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd
Tubular Bells – Mike Oldfield
Ommadawn – Mike Oldfield
Joshua Tree – U2
LA Woman – The Doors
Horses – Patti Smith
Easter – Patti Smith
Big Science – Laurie Anderson
New York Man – Lou Reed

What iPod tells me I like (most played in the eighteen months I’ve had the iPod)
1) Supernature – Goldfrapp
2) Standing In The Morning – Ian Siegal
3) Can’t Buy A Thrill – Steely Dan
4) American Beauty – Grateful Dead
5) Greatest Hits – Bob Seager
6) Easter – Patti Smith
7) Shaking The Tree – Peter Gabriel
8 ) Solid Bronze – Beautiful South
9) Lust For Life – Iggy Pop
10 Animals – Pink Floyd

This result is skewed due to the fact that I probably use my iPod to listen to more recently aquired/discovered music, and doesn’t take account of the fact that although I can play my iPod in the car via a Griffin iTrip , I still have a bunch of CD’s that I prefer to listen to. The problem with the iTrip (in the UK) is that our FM bands are just too crowded, so what might be a clear channel gets very crowded a few miles down the road.
