On The Rocks – Geological Musings

I was spending my lunchtime exploring some quaternary deposits, and pondering on the presence of a piece of fine-grained granite in gravel beds (Reading and Thanet), when I realized that there were only two questions in the whole of geology:
(1) Why are the rocks in front of me all the same?
(2) Why are the rocks in front of me all different?

Anyway this revelation encouraged me to set up a separate category of geological ponderings.

At bit further along in my perambulations and I encountered a shelly limestone, probably originating from the Cotswolds, which of course, is upstream from where I was prospecting.  The granite I decided may just have been discarded road mending rubble.
