Now don't get me started but…
…most reputable geologists still recognise that dinoasurs were not wiped out by an asteroid impact 65 million years ago. However the popular science/scare the willies off you brigade have carried on trying to hype the idea. New research further nail the coffin lid down on that one http://www.livescience.com/animalworld/060329_dino_crater.html The dinosuars were in fact clobbered by Global Climate Change resulting from the eruption of the Deccan traps in India.
So why the hype about impacts and extinctions? Well it is all down to Ed “Thermonuke” Teller who wanted to find new excuses to let off a few little bombs, so he helped start a push for finding ways of diverting asteroids and comets should they appear to be endangering Earth, by letting off one of his bombs.
When you read a science story in the press, remember that if the Journalists were clever, the’d have got jobs as scientists.
P.S. None of my friends are journalists, I wonder why?
